Annual Report 2023

A dream doesn’t become reality through magic, it takes, sweat determination and hard work.

            As we reflect upon the past academic year it is with great pleasure and pride that I present the Annual Report of the year 2023 – 2024. This presentation gives the achievements, challenges and milestones that have shaped our educational journey. Together, we have navigated a year of growth, resilience and dedication to fostering a nurturing learning environment.

School Reopening: We commenced the new academic session 2023-2024 on the 3rd June with lots of enthusiasm and anticipation. The management and staff welcomed the students, looking forward to another year of fostering curiosity, nurturing talents and building a community that values excellence and collaboration.

            To ensure a smooth and inspiring start to the New Academic session an orientation programme was organized for the teachers on the 2nd June. The resource person being Rev. Dr. Sr. Shobhana Michael SJC on the topic “Time to change your mind set – life above zero level”. The teachers also benefited by the seminar given by Mrs. Vinola Honerine Prakash on the 17th of June aiming to equip them with the knowledge and tools they need to thrive in their role, contribute to the school’s success and create a positive and supportive learning environment for students.

A warm welcome to the new Correspondent: The 3rd of June 2023 marked a memorable chapter in our School’s history as the staff welcomed our new Correspondent Rev. Dr. Sr. Lourdumary with a prayer service and felicitation. And on the 8th June the students of STD XII conducted an inspiring assembly welcoming Sister and promising her a future filled with shared experiences mutual growth and limitless possibilities.  Sister in her keynote address assured her full support for the growth of the institution.

Results: “Success is not merely a destination, but a journey of dedication, perseverance and unwavering belief”.

            Our sincere efforts were crowned with success in the HSC Examination with Adhya S securing 98% in the +2 and Priscilla Christy S securing 96% in +1 and Srinithi S Securing 97% in the SSLC examination. Our School’s centum result in both SSLC and Higher Secondary exams is a testament to the collective dedication and pursuit of excellence by every student and educator.

            Feast of Sacred Heart. The celebration of the Feast of Sacred Heart on the 16th of June was a joyous occasion for everyone in SHY. The day commenced with a solemn Eucharistic Celebration by Rev. Fr. Maria Joseph our Parish Priest Rev. Fr. Joannes Gopu our Chaplain and Rev. Fr. John Britto.

The Mass was followed by the Investiture ceremony to instil a sense of responsibility and accountability in the chosen leaders, emphasizing their role in contributing positively to the school. The elected leaders were,

The twin celebration of the Feast Day of our Mother Founder and the Golden Jubilee of Sr. Laetitia.

            The celebration commenced with a Solemn Eucharistic celebration on the 14th July after which Sr. Laetitia was felicitated by the Sisters, Teachers, the students and the workers. The celebration left indelible memories and a sense of achievement and gratitude that would be cherished for years to come.

Annual Sports Meet: The annual sports meet on the 28th of July dawned with a vibrant opening ceremony, marked by the unfurling of flags, the lighting of the Olympic torch and a collective pledge to uphold the spirit of fair play. The spirit of healthy competition was evident as participations pushed their limits, striving for excellence and personal bests.

            The Chief Guest Mrs. Rajeswari IPS, Deputy Inspector of Police, Salem Range in her address highlighted that sports goes beyond the scores and medals; it’s about pushing boundaries, overcoming challenges and celebrating the journey of self-discovery.

            The Guest of Honour, Thiru A. Ramachandren Mayor of Salem, appreciated the event for its collective effort, hard work and sportsmanship that define the Character of this institution.

            After a spectacular show of elegance and discipline through drill displays, March past, innovative games, athletic and field events the house of Marians won the first prize for March Past and the house of Teresians emerged as the champion House for the Year.

Trophies and medals were awarded acknowledging the dedication and hard work of the prize winners. Thus the Sports Meet left behind a trail of memories, a sense of accomplishment a testament to the enduring power of sports to unite and inspire.

The visit of Sr. Norah our Provincial Superior: The 8th of August was a red letter day for all of us at SHY as we welcomed Sr. Norah our Provincial Superior. The students welcomed her with a Prayer Service and a welcome dance. Sister was felicitated by Dr. Sr. Lourdumary our Correspondent while Sr. Merlyn introduced her to the School. Sister Norah in her keynote address spoke about the importance of making choices in our life on a daily basis. Sister urged the students and teachers to be persons of faith and always to strive for excellence in all we do.

            To instil in our students the spirit of patriotism and the importance of contributing towards the growth of the nation Independence Day was celebrated on the 15th August. In her speech Sr. Norah the Chief Guest of the day exhorted the teachers and the students envision a future where we can actively contribute to the progress and well – being of the nation.

            “You don’t get what you wish for, you get what you work for.”

            The school conducted a number of seminars and orientation programme for the students to enhance their personal growth and to prepare them for various aspects of life beyond classroom.

            The seminar on Personal growth by addressing topics related to emotional intelligence, time management and goal setting was conducted by Fr. John Wilson SDB on the 17th of June.

            A motivational session was given by Fr. Suresh from Australia on the 15th of June to help our children to develop a resilient attitude, cope with challenges and maintain optimism.

            Mr. Sathish Kumar a renowned Rotarian was the resource person for the next session on goal setting, confidence building and life skills which was conducted on the 6th September.

            Mrs. Preetha Senthil Kumar gave a session for our students on

Career Guidance to introduce them to various career paths, highlighting the importance of education and perseverance in achieving their desired careers.

The visit of Dr. Manish N. IAS: The unexpected visit of Dr. Manish N. IAS, Additional collector of Erode, on the 18th of August brought a pleasant surprise to all of us at SHY. This visit provided a unique opportunity for students, teachers and the school administration to interact with him which was both inspiring and educational.

The Club Activities: The purpose of the club activities is to offer platform for students to develop and enhance their skills, Explore interests and to provide opportunity for creativity and Innovation.

Senior Literary Association: Literature is one of the most interesting and significant expressions of humanity. The investiture ceremony of SLA took place on the 23rd June, with the oath taking of the office bearers of the three houses Keats, Tennyson and words worth.

Junior Literary Association: The Investiture Ceremony of JLA was held on the 7th of August. The literary associations are doing a wonderful job of enriching the literary attribute of our students by conducting various competitions.

Interact Club: the SHY interactors were encouraged to gain awareness of the intellectually challenged children by their visit to CSI Gnana Bala Illam, Salem on the 16th of March. The inauguration of the Interact club of the current year took place on the 11th of August in the presence of the Rotarians of Yercaud.

The Interact Club along with the Rotarians of Yercaud conducted Rota Sports at Nallur Government School on the 15th August, the first ever sports meet in the school. On the 2nd of September the Rotary club together with the interactors of SHY honoured 6 of the teachers of SHY with nation Builder Award. The chief Guest of the event.                              Mr. Selvamani Chidambaram highlighted the invaluable contributions of teachers to the society impacting individuals and communities in various ways. He also mentioned that Indian teachers are not only nation builders but also international builders.

PTA Meetings: PTA meetings foster a sense of partnership between parents and teachers in the educational journey of students, and serve as a vital bridge between home and school. The school conducted PTA meeting on the 16th of August for classes VI, VII, and VIII and on the 21st of September for classes IX to XII.

Teachers’ Day: Teachers are instrumental in shaping the future by investing in the character education and well-being of the next generation. To honour the teachers for their contribution in the lives of students, SHY celebrated Teachers day on the 5th of September. The students of class XII organised an inspiring programme. The school was adorned with colourful decoration, and the atmosphere buzzed with excitement and anticipation. The day began with a Solemn Eucharistic celebration by Rev. Fr. Joannes Gopu our Chaplain. The cultural extravaganza was a delightful surprise with the students taking the stage to express their gratitude through speeches, poems songs dances and skits. It’s amazing how a small loving gesture can light up a teachers’ days.

Educational Tour: The students from classes IX to XII were extremely excited to go for a tour to Mysore visiting the Palace, Zoo and Bangalore Wonderla, creating lasting memories for students. These experiences would surely contribute to their personal growth and become cherished moments.

SHY Talentia 2023: Talent day competitions aim to provide students with a platform to display their diverse talents, boost confidence and to cultivate healthy competitions. “SHY Talentia 2023” was conducted from the 6th to 10th of November with a variety of competition like storytelling, recitation, speech autobiography, singing dance skit etc.

Celebrating Joy: Children’s Day Extravaganza. Children are the world’s most valuable resource and its best hope for the future.

            To appreciate and cherish the unique qualities and potential of every child in SHY the management and staff together celebrated children’s day on the 15th of November. The Solemn High Mass was celebrated by Fr. Simon Raj SDB Principal at Gnanodhaya Philosophical College Yercaud.

            The teachers then staged a variety entertainment programme comprising of songs, dances, skits, which was both educational and entertaining, celebrating the uniqueness and potential of every child.

Interschool Competition: Our students took part in various competitions organised by different schools and organisation like MUN, state Level science expo by Holy Cross matric Hr. Sec School, Drawing by Global Talent Managers, G.K by Deepika children’s League, Maths, Science and English Olympiads. It’s an honour to announce that 9 of our students Sophia David,Nila Balachandar, Vanisha SD, Regilla Christy, Aliya Amber, Anjana Sundaram, Adhya Juliana and Jenitha Idhaya of our school won gold medal in the International English Olympiad and 10 of our students Chrisabella D’Couto, Pravisha Shri, SriSai SAmritha, Sophia David, Krishika, Niyhyashree, Nishanthitha, Sansya Anto won gold medal in International cience Olympiad. I congratulate the teachers and their parents of these students.I take pride I announcing that Ms.Uma Chidambaram won the best delegate award and Ms.Rithanya G and Ms.Mahima S won the Verbal mention award in the MUN conducted by Emereld Valley Public School. 10 of our students took part in the Interstate Level conducted in Vellore and 8 of our students took part in the Zonal level Athletic meet in Salem and won many prizes.

SHY Fete: The most exciting time of the year SHY FETE was organised on the 8th of October. It was a vibrant and festive event, bringing together students, parents and teachers in a celebration of community spirit. Stalls were adorned with colourful decorations, showcased fancy items, games and delicious food items. The fete offered a diverse range of attractions and overall it was a joyous occasion. The high light of the day was the Miss Fete contest conducted by the students of class XII and Ms. Roshini of STD X was crowned as Miss Fete of year 2023.

            Our students took active participation in the SSGY fete to raise fund for the cause of the poor and needy.

Music Exam: “Music is the strongest form of magic.” –     of our students took up the music exam conducted in our school by Trinity college of Music, London on the 2nd to the 4th of November.

            The budding Musicians of SHY honoured St. Cecelia the Patroness of Music by conducting a well prepared assembly followed by a mesmerising musical program giving a glimpse into the world of music on the 22nd November.

Dramatics: (A night of Dramatic Brilliance)

            “All the world’s a stage, and all the men and women merely players.”

            The school’s auditorium transformed into a realm of creativity and expression as the much anticipated inter house Dramatics competition was unfolded on the …………

            The stage became a canvas for story telling with houses weaving narratives that ranged from thought provoking dramas to light – hearted comedies. The judges                             Mr Sivabalan, Sr. Josephine and Mrs Belinda faced the formidable task of selecting winners from an array of outstanding performances.

            The Marguerites won the first place for their play “Charley’s Aunt” and the Tresians won the 2nd place for their play Blithe Spirit.

            The Chief Guest Dr. Sivabalan appreciated the Participants for their remarkable performance and stated that drama is the reflection of human spirit, the celebration of creativity dedication and the relentless pursuit of excellence.

SHY Christmas: As the winter chill embraced SHY, the spirit of Christmas filled the air, bringing warmth and joy to every corner of our beloved intuition. The school hall adorned with twinkling lights, festive decorations and the melodious tunes of classic carols set the stage for a memorable Christmas celebration.

            The highlight of the day was the Christmas play performed by the students of grades VIII & IX. The stage came alive with the retelling of the classic Christmas tale, complete with colourful costumes, captivating performances and the message of love.

            The honourable Chief Guest Dr. Arulselven Rayappan, Bishop of Salem gave the true meaning of Christmas through his message.

Mega Book Fair: Our Students Profited visiting the Mega Book fair conducted by the Salem District Administration.

Inspiring Creativity: A Showcase of Art and Craft

The school celebrated a vibrant art and craft exhibition on the               where creativity took centre stage. Students from grades I to IX poured their imagination into an array of artistic expressions showcasing the school’s commitment to fostering creativity.

Beyond the classroom: The school provides a number of co scholastic activities like yoga, taekwondo, dance, music etc to provide a comprehensive educational experience that goes beyond textbooks.

A Journey culminated – Class 12 Graduation Ceremony:  The 16th February 2023 was a memorable day for the outgoing students of class 12 as their graduation ceremony took place in the auditorium at 10.30 am. The hall was adorned with excitement and nostalgia and the air filled with a sense of accomplishment. The ceremony kicked off with the procession of the graduating class, dressed in their graduation gowns and caps, they walked with a mix of pride and sentiment.

            Emotions ran high as the Chief Guest Mrs. Anuja Chandramouli a past student of SHY relived her school days and reflecting with the graduating class on the challenges overcame, lessons learned and the friendships created. She was immensely grateful for all that she received from the school.

            The post – ceremony, the atmosphere shifted to one of both joy and bitter sweet farewells. The evening concluded with a lively send-off party organised by the students of class XI. Thus the class XII journey concluded, leaving behind a trail of memories, friendships and the indomitable spirit that will guide our beloved outgoing students into the next chapter of life.

Guides & Bulbuls Movement: Guides and bulbuls focus on instilling values, ethics, fostering the development of a strong responsible character. The first activity of Guides took place when the juniors of STD IV and V were enrolled as Bulbuls. The Senior Guides of STD IX organised an open air cooking with the guidance of their teachers which culminated in serving and enjoying a sumptuous lunch.

            The tracking and the outreach program of visiting and offering help to the inmates of Anbu Illam, Yercaud and the Bulbul’s outing to Kolahalam Science Park were all learning experiences for the Guide.

            The Culmination of the years Guides activities was the campfire on the 23rd of February in the school ground to witness a variety of items like dances, skits, mimes etc

It is on this optimistic note of gratitude that I would like to present the Annual Report of the school for the year 2023-24. It is an honour and previlage to recall the greatness of God almighty who has done marvellous works for our school during the past 129 years of its history.
